PRAYER, OUR ONLY WEAPON

The month of September has started with so many uncertainties in the air. It has carried with it the unfinished business of the past 8 months toppled with the added pressure that we only have 3 more months till the year ends.
Parents are concerned about how to financial cope with the new academic year; single parents are concerned about making time to spend with their family while trying to put food on the table. Married men and women are looking at planning for their families this Christmas. Singles are dreading the fact that they may be spending the Christmas alone. Young people in education are just settling back in and asking how they can meet their target grades.
Friends and families who lost their loved ones over the summer holidays are trying their best to live without them; prisons are being filled up more and the grave is gaining more inhabitants. Moreover the world has been put on alert increasingly by impending terrorist attack and governments are struggling to come up with ways to outlaw a law they set up years ago.
In a world now where concrete laws that used to protect people are failing, the questions then become… What have we got and what can we trust?
The only thing I can implore you to trust is the sure Word of God which never fails. Mere laws and systems can give the beneficiaries power let alone the formidable Word of God. The word of God says be anxious for nothing, not because there is nothing to be anxious about, but because it is difficult to achieve any results on your own.
The unique thing about God’s word is that the ability is within the instruction. This scripture goes on to say that ‘but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus’ (Philippians 4: 6-7 NKJV).
This means your ability to not be anxious is within your obedience to what he tells you to do.
A problem only precedes a solution, meaning that before a problem arises, the solution has already been born. For instance we know that we are cold because we have known how to be warm/hot. We know there is a disease because we know how to be at ease. Whenever you go to the hospital with a problem, the physician will often prescribe something that you have to do religiously to combat it. It might be a tablet that you have to take three or seven times a day. Likewise when the enemy come to you 7 times, take your medicine which is the Word of God seven times until that thing stops.
But your ability to see hope in the midst of all these depends on your view point and mind-set. Did the situation come to kill you or to make you stronger? Did you know that problems gravitate towards their solutions? It came to you because it knew you can handle it. I know you might be saying, pastor you don’t know what I am going through, Pastor I have no money in my account and the debtors are coming for me. You might say pastor, my first and only child is in prison, I lost my job, my husband left me, etc.
But I want to encourage you, yes I don’t know what you are going through but I know there is someone called God who created the universe. He has the world in his hands and there is nothing he cannot do.
In this month of September must pray, because we are not allowed to carry knifes or any form of external machinery. All we have is prayer, our only hope. Let us not give up because of what is happening and become crippled with fear.
Let us do what we know, which is to pray..
